Leno started birding as a student on the Kirtland's Warbler Research and Training Program in the Bahamas in 2001. Since then he has worked to engage students, educators and governments in conservation in countries throughout the Caribbean and the USA. He has degrees from the University of the Bahamas, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Miami University in Oxford Ohio. His doctoral research addressed the biases humans introduce into the biodiversity record, because of our behavior. Dr. Davis' philosophy is that "Everyone can use more science, but we all need more perspective." THis philosophy is the founding principle behind his work with the "Science and Perspective" brand. He filters science through the shared culture and experience of Bahamians, Caribbean diaspora and people of color.
